From the bigger picture to the next right step.
Sustainability is more than a report. It is how an organisation understands its impact, makes decisions and prepares for what comes next. The approach below answers two separate questions: how you engage Ontos, and how the work itself runs.
Engagement model
How you engage Ontos.
Four ways to work together, from independent advice to full ownership. Which one fits is a question of your situation, not a sequence every engagement moves through.
Advise
Independent analysis and recommendations on a defined question.
Build
Design the strategy, framework, policy or process.
Implement
Put it into operation alongside your team.
Embed
Ontos takes ownership as an interim sustainability manager.
Method
How the work runs.
The process. The same six stages apply whether Ontos is advising on a single question or leading a programme from the inside. The depth of each stage changes; the order does not.
Understand the organisation, investment context, stakeholders and objectives.
Start with the organisation rather than the framework — how decisions are made, who makes them, what has already been committed, and what the people involved actually need from the work.
Identify gaps, risks, opportunities and dependencies.
Test the current position against objectives, regulation and stakeholder expectations, looking for the gaps that matter most and the dependencies most likely to slow things down later.
Separate what matters from what merely needs attention.
Not everything needs doing at once. Rank issues by materiality, urgency and effort, and be explicit about what is deliberately set aside for a later stage of the work.
Develop the strategy, framework, roadmap or analysis.
Design the thing itself — a policy, a due diligence framework, a GHG inventory, a roadmap — together with the people who will use it, so it fits how the organisation works.
Turn recommendations into decisions, processes and measurable action.
Agree owners, timelines and measures, prepare the decision materials for management or the board, and where useful, stay on to run the first cycle alongside the team.
Review what is working, strengthen the system and build internal capability.
Check results against the measures agreed, adjust what is not working, and leave documentation and skills behind so the organisation can carry the work forward on its own.
Principles
Three principles.
Built around you
Your context, priorities and ambitions shape the work, not a standard template.
Grounded in action
Practical strategies, clear decisions and implementation — not sustainability theatre.
Independent perspective
Objective advice grounded in sustainability, investment and financial-sector experience.
Have a sustainability challenge you’re trying to solve?
Describe where things stand and what you’re trying to achieve. That is enough to start a useful conversation.
